Ties That Tether Published September 29th 2020 via Berkley Contemporary Romance 336 Pages ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ Raise your hand if you enjoy romance novels. Now raise your hand if you don't - because either way, I think you'll dig this marvelous debut from Jane Igharo. Imagine that you're a Nigerian native named Azere who emigrates to Canada shortly after your father dies. You're twelve, and your father's dying wish was for you to marry a Nigerian man to preserve your culture. Fast forward 10 plus years, and now you're a single, successful creative director at an advertising agency who, after a failed date with a Nigerian man (about the ten millionth that your mother set up), has a crazy steamy and intense one night stand with the handsome and sexy Rafael. And afterward, you can't stop thinking about him. But it will never work because he's white - and most definitely not Nigerian. I don't usually read romance but, I got this from BOTM after seeing rave reviews on booksta and my heart was SO full upon finishing it. You can probably guess how the story will end, but I loved the theme of blending cultures and growing together instead of sticking to one outlook or tradition. It's a mentality we can all use and appreciate. Will I read more romance novels after this? That's still up for debate 😅, but I'm so happy I gave this one a try!
